Start-up: LittleSun GmbH

Little Sun is a social business founded by artist Olafur Eliasson and engineer Frederik Ottesen to bring clean, affordable energy to the 1.1 billion people in the world living in areas without electricity. Purchasing Little Suns in areas of the world with electricity makes the products available in off-grid areas at reduced, locally affordable prices, where they provide a clean alternative to toxic and expensive fuel-based lighting.

Little Sun addresses the need for energy in a sustainable way that benefits off-grid communities by working with local entrepreneurs, creating local jobs, and generating local profits. The Little Sun project was officially launched in July 2012 at London’s Tate Modern. Since then, more than 500,000 Little Sun lamps have been distributed worldwide.

Project: Little Sun Charge

Charge your phone. Charge your life.

Little Sun Charge is a high-performance solar charger that frees you from the grid. It brings the power of the sun to your phone, MP3 player, Kindle or camera: wherever you are, whenever you need it.

It’s your perfect travel buddy – for the great outdoors, when you’re in transit without access to a power socket, or when you’re on the go in the city. With a large battery capacity of 4.400mAh, you can rely on it for all your adventures.

Additionally, your purchase allows us to bring solar energy to off-grid Africa at locally affordable prices.

The unique power-pack also features a handy inbuilt LED lamp. 7.5 hours in the sun gives you a fully powered Charge or over 155 hours of light. The available stand converts the Charge to a distinctive desk lamp.
